What Are People Saying

Everything possible needs to be done to stop this ROW.
St. Clair has already been ruined by street car tracks that funnel traffic into one lane in all the current areas that currently have congestion. As a result many people, myself included to use side streets rather than St Clair. If the ROW is built, it will increase the amount of cars on side streets dramatically.
The whole argument the city uses about saving 5 minutes off the trip is ridiculous. I only need more frequent street cars and a seat.

We don't need a transit expressway dividing up our neighbourhood. Other better options exist including running more street cars, using buses instead of street cars, etc.

I'm a service Business owner in the St.Clair west area. giving the TTC a steetcar right of way will effect ALL businesses in the area BADLY.  I will raise my service rates with the costs going to my customers, if I have to drive way out of my way to get my service call done.  I drive up and down St.Clair west several times a day, and a streetcar right of way will greatly efffect my business.  Also why does the TTC need a right of way??   Even at rush hour(s), most steetcars only have a hand full of passergers at best !!!!

I have lived 23 years in this neightbourhood. I use the streetcar every weekday. I have seen the effect on Spadina. I can clearly anticipate the disastrous effect of a DROW on St. Clair W. The quality of my residential life will drop. Moving in and out of my area will become time-consuming and cumbersome. The retail businesses will be devastated.
Same old, same old... However I will help to stop this.

The TTC does not want to help this community at all. If they genuinely cared, they would scrap the idea of a barrier, and put transit service back to the level it was at ten years ago. They cannot blame congestion for bad service, they can blame their own cutbacks and rude personnel. St. Clair is a gem in our community that is vibrant, wholesome, and welcoming. Barriers will ruin the aesthetic, causing a plethora of accidents, and WILL DISCOURAGE tourists to come down and visit. I know this for a fact because I have friends and relatives from just north of the city who say they will not come down anymore due to parking restrictions, the danger involved, the added nuisance, and the struggle to make a turn! Once the businesses go down, then what? Should I expect to see ghetto dollar stores and high-rises where what used to be the most exciting and joyous part of town?

It's just plain sad that the TTC has not been informing the community on what they plan to do. I am very PROUD that SOS exists, spreading awareness, and protecting our community. All my neighbours, friends, family and teachers are opposed to this. Is this a coincidence TTC? Or, could it be that the overwhelming majority of taxpayers and citizens oppose your uninspiring "vision"?

After living in this area for 35 years and seeing the many changes that have evolved on St. Clair I believe that the right of way will hurt our businesses.  Many of those who shop on St. Clair come from Vaughan and they will not take public transit no matter how convenient the streetcar is.  I am also very concerned about the additional traffic which will be moved onto the side streets.  It will make it dangerous for small children to play.  Also, as one who must park on the street I fear that I will never find a parking spot within a block of my home.  Parking is already a huge problem - it will become a NIGHTMARE!!

I'm 14 years old, as well as a Laotian-Canadian. I chill on St. clair a lot and think it's one of the cooler places in the city. I feel with all my heart that barriers will ruin St. Clair and people wont enjoy it as much. Dont lose the drive to fight this, kids like me need st. clair, the memories I have had on st. clair are priceless. I will boycott the TTC if this goes through. They NEED to be stopped!

Donny S.

I'm a member of Toronto's Laotian community. I go shopping on St. Clair all the time and particularly appreciate the unique flavour and spirit on Corso Italia. The loss of St. Clair's great communities will damage our city more than anyone can imagine. Best of luck to all of you fighting to keep St. Clair prosperous and lively!

Sherlyn C.

It is important to me to have a strong business community on the St Clair strip because I rely on it heavily now for all my shopping. I walk everywhere in our community and it is the reason I remained here instead of moving to the suburbs.

I am against the ROW because it will redirect traffic to the side streets which are already heavily trafficked. I worry for my young children playing outside.

Lisa R.

The concept is ill-conceived.  Not only will it cost St. Clair businesses millions of dollars in lost revenue, it will result in significantly more pollution from the inevitable traffic jams that it causes.  This won't fix what needs fixing; it's a boondoggle which will make the area much less livable and more polluted.

Our family is very much against a dedicated right of way. TTC should look into being the better way, not the right of way.
